Again with the procrastination thing.*le sigh* So we ended up not doing anything cool or pyrotechnic for the fourth. I chilled with the family and threw some Brats on the grill and called it a night. The next day I had yet another culinary delight planned for friends and roomies alike. The day was going great. It drizzled a bit but nothing serious, even for Texans.;) Got things going for the dinner I had planned. Pork roast with mustard rub, twice baked potatoes, cole slaw, baked beans, deviled eggs, wine punch and a slew of cookies were on the menu. Had everything in hand when Bakeitha called to say her sister had gone into labor and she was driving to east Texas to attend his birth. Cool, strike the deviled eggs off the agenda since she was the chief reason they were being made. Then I gave directions to Julia who was driving an hour to attend the dinner and was putting off homework to do so. Yay for map quest and GPS.LOL Sadly she was the only one who bothered to show. One other friend called to graciously inform me she was unable to come. Since I know how much she loves my cooking I know that burned her. And I thank her for calling me. The rest of the tweakers just never showed up or answered their cell phones! Nothing went to waste as I had plenty of leftovers for lunch and the money I did not spend on frozen dinners for the week I worked I get to save for my trip to Ireland next week. Work was fine. Being on vacay this month means I have to work extra hard to stay on track with my sales goals. They don't take my time off into account, so as a result I am really having to work my rear off. I was gonna save stress like that for when the gym opened in a few weeks.*eyeroll* Bakeitha's nephew is a honey. Doesn't look like a lizard at all.LOL I mean lets be honest here, many newborns do not live up to the hype after x many hours of being squeezed out into the world like the last of the toothpaste three days before payday. Mom and baby are doing just fine and I expect to be looking at many more pictures and videos shown off by his adoring aunt. On a less than happy note. Today maintenance came by to fix my kitchen sink. WTF, I thought they had done that last month but okie doke. It gets better. The specials screwed up and flooded my kitchen, dining room and half my living area with water because they jacked something up and couldn't turn it off. They spent 20 minutes vaccuuming it up and then came back with this loud monstrosity of a fan and informed me that it must run for 4 days to prevent mold and mildew. The cats are horrified by it, refusing to venture near which is more than sad since that's the only place I have to place their litter box. We'll see what wins out in the end fear of my reaction to things being done outside the box, or the scary fan monster that shakes the floor and clearly wants to eat up little kittehs. Still need to do a bit of laundry and pack for my trip. I leave Monday night and I can't wait. TTYL! Tags: ramblings Current Location: hone sweet...what the hell is that on the floor!? Ok, so I'm not the most punctual person ever. Or perhaps procrastination is more my problem since I loathe being late for things? Sadly I cannot use a sudden increase in new and fascinating things in my life as an excuse for my lack of follow through on that whole "weekly" business.LOL The grill out went well, eventually. Everyone showed up who said they would. Sadly my apartment complex chose Father's Day to "fix" the AC system for all units and it was of course not back on by the time they said it would be. The temp was in the 90's so about 32 for my friends across the pond? Anyhoo, it was pretty toasty until the sun went down but luckily that's when most of my friends arrived. My grill inexplicably chose not to catch until we doused it liberally(and I do stress that word) with lighter fluid, causing a very pretty fireball when the lit paper was tossed in from a cautious distance away. I waited a bit for the fumes to burn off and the food was a hit. We then watched some Firefly, drank some Sangria and the party broke up early enough for those that had to work the next day to show up as more than high functioning zombies. But only slightly, after all it was a party. Later in the week we were informed that a friend of mine was made an assistant manager. Yay for Charles! He was also told he needed to distance himself from us lowly peons and was advised to forgo our midnight movie night to see the new Transformers flick. Which by the way was alright(too long at a gritty eyed 2 1/2 hours), the human element continues to pull the franchise down, and there were too many 'bots to do justice to. But friendship prevailed and we went as a large group, consistently pestered about the seats being saved via text by the early birds. Freakin' over achivers needed to do a shot and unbunch their panties. I got there an hour and half before the previews showed and got to sit in the semi dark with a few ripe fans in the seats ahead of me. Makes me wish I was the kind of girly-girl who carried perfume with me so I could spritz the offending odor from the air. My complex decided yet again to turn our AC off for hours on end the following day. I woke to a sweltering house and was unable to sleep in shamelessly as I had planned. Worse yet, there was also no water for some godforsaken reason. I took the cats to the park and enjoyed a sudden and counter forecast rain shower that was the temp of a tepid shower. The cats were less than pleased but you can't make everyone happy. So by way of no books to read and no recent trips to the library I have persisted in reading the Stackhouse books. I have stumped my friend(who has yet to feel my wrath over being ditched on bolwing night) by correctly guessing the outcome to several plot "twists". Though I was less than impressed with one of the books heavily relying on an interlude only found in an anthology that left me wondering what the hell everyone was going on about for most of the book. This was at least a change from trudging along through it until the end of yet another book/impromptu romance with a Supe that cannot resist our simple(take that however you like) telepathic barmaid. End of the week saw me doing a bit of beta work and today I attended a baby shower for a coworker who will be naming her little girl Lucy. Rather than give the predictable, though cute, gift of baby clothes I decided to gift the baby with one of my favorite stories. As further fun it played off her name and I hope her mom will read "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" to little Lucy while she gnaws on her stuffed beaver toy that squeaks. Little do the recipients know I was hard pressed to find such a toy until I happened by the pet aisle at the supermarket and struck gold. Hey, this way I know it's safe for what babies do to beloved toys, which is chew on them! It makes a cute squeaky noise and is appropriate to the story which her name features prominently in. Other guests of the party kept needing the gift explained to them, which made me feel a bit awkward. Not a bunch of readers present I suppose. ;) So that's it for my second ramble. Hope all my online peeps are doing well. Have a Happy Fourth to those who celebrate. I'm gonna try not to get arrested for lighting up too many fireworks. LOL I guess if I don't come back in a few weeks you'll know I failed. Tags: ramblings Current Location: why do you want to know?! Current Mood: complacent

So, in absence of anything truly interesting in the fictional category I'm gonna be making weekly updates and talking about random stuff. Enjoy the monotony that is my life.;P I am starting the week off just home from cosmic bowling. Coordination not being a high skill set for me this is an activity better accomplished with some alcohol in my system. It's company night at the bowling alley. Most of the mall's shops were represented, ours was sadly lacking considering we employ more people than say, Tuxedo Junction. But what can you do? I'm still trying to figure out my dvr. I need to find where I hid the instructions from myself so I can stop missing Burn Notice and I'm ready for Fall tv. Yes, indeed my life is that dull. :P Also on a more adventurous note, I was able to corral all three cats into the bathroom for their seasonal ablutions. I'm not a crazy cat lady, only one is actually mine. I call her coma-cat. Of the three she was by far the quietest/mellowest cat I got into the bathtub. My mom's cat you'd have thought I was lighting her on fire with the howls she let out at truly impressive volumes. Gah! Then came my sister's cat who meowed a bit and almost made good her escape but all for naught! Lastly I washed my own kitteh and she just sat and looked pitiful. I felt especially bad when I grabbed my body wash by mistake and had to suds her up again in the actual flea prevention kitty shampoo. This was one sudsy cat. I felt really evil for the number of times I had to put her through the rinse cycle. But she sure does smell pretty. All was forgiven afterward though when I sat down to enjoy a rest from my travails. I apparently have a warm lap and the only thing stopping me from tossing her off of it was her shivering and sad little kitty squeaks. This cat does not meow like a normal feline, the mouth opens up but only a tiny sound comes out. Truly I have tried to harden my heart against this blatant manipulation of my softer feelings, but no luck on that front. In other news I'm gonna pwn my coworker tomorrow for not showing up to bowl tonight as promised. I have been laboriously trudging through the Sookie Stackhouse books at her insistence(sometimes/usually accompanied by whining). And after I get suckered into 4 books, by which time she swears I'll love the vapid characters as she does*inswert whiplash inducing eye roll here*, she can't be arsed to show up and throw the 10 lb ball down the lane a few times, for free?! Dammit. I dragged my sorry self to this function after my debacle of a day off and she just leaves me there to twist in the wind. Vengeance shall be mine! That's all for now. Next week, recaps from my grill party and hopefully success on my part with the maastering of the dvr. Wish me luck. -Ellie Tags: ramblings Current Location: on my way to bed!
